The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson

This audiobook is too long, way too long. If this author’s big hit, The 100 Year Old Man who Climbed out of the Window and Disappeared was witty and funny in telling a story that spanned a lifetime, this attempt at a follow up in the same vein missed the mark.

Of course, as with The 100 Year old Man events and characters are far-fetched. Nombeko, the Girl of the title is born in the slums of Soweto, but is gluttonous in learning maths, physics and engineering, and through a series of mishaps becomes involved in apartheid South Africa’s secret nuclear bomb project. Through involvement with Mossad, she ends up in Sweden, where she hooks up with a disfunctional family, and …
