Meet me in Malmo by Torquil MacLeod

A scandi crime mystery by a Scottish writer.

Ewan Strachan is a journalist. He encounters an old university friend, Mick Roslyn, who has become a well known film director in Sweden. Mick invites Ewan to Malmo to do an exclusive interview with him and his wife, a glamorous movie star.

Of course there is a murder. Ewan and Mick are in the mix as suspects, along with others.

There are also tensions and severe personality clashes within the team of Swedish detectives. This being the first Anita Sundstrom mystery, the story focuses on her.

Mr MacLeod cleverly saves a final twist to the very last page, in the scene that usually closes a book after the mystery has been solved.

This was a surprisingly good read. I bought it for my kindle in 2013 but have only just got round to it. Having read reviews of the next book in the series, I will probably read it some time.

A slightly generous 8 out of 10.
